Well not quite. Wolfram Alpha is the search engine that was launched earlier this month by British Computer Scientist Stephen Wolfram. So why isn’t it the new google? Google returns results as an index of web pages that are relevant to the search terms you enter. Which has its Pro’s and Con’s. Wolfram Alpha is a “computational knowledge engine” which returns one page with answers to factual questions. So if you are looking for information based on fact, like the GDP of a country then this is the place to come, for a quick and simple answer. So maybe it is best described as a bit of a hybrid between Wikipedia and Google.
With the Wofram machine boasting a ten trillion curated facts database to start them off with it will be interesting how this search engine grows and moe importantly how it will look to improve on Google’s offering especially since they launched their own version of Wolfram Alpha Google Public Data.
